Fragments @ Westside United Methodist
The ensemble FLYDLPHN is known for their adventurous chamber music and collaborations with young and emerging composers. Their Fall showcase event is entitled “Fragments” and features the work of Ann Arbor composers Nora Farley and Charlie Kreidler; alongside works by Jacob Nance and a world premiere by Emily Graham.
“Fragments” is a program of works evoking and utilizing fractures, deconstructions, and vignettes as a means of finding new ways to observe familiar facets of the human experience. The highlight of this year's production is the world premiere of composer Emily Graham’s “Holding Space”, a series of 7 vignettes, each based on a different emotion or feeling (Self, Happiness, Sadness, Anxiety, Calm, Jealousy, and Love). During the performance, the audience will be invited to vote on the order in which the movements are to be performed.
What follows is composer Charlie Kreidler's visually stunning take on improvised segments from Mozart piano sonatas, as well as our rendition (or rather deconstruction) of Bach's Ricercar a 6 from The Musical Offering that you won't want to miss!
Hope to see you there!
